Arsenal will now participate in the Community Shield following the FA Cup final result, and their pre-season plans are set to change, Charles Watts has revealed.
Who are Arsenal playing against in pre-season?
The Gunners are expected to travel to the United States for part of their preparations and may even host the Emirates Cup, a two-day tournament which has been held in north London on several occasions over the years.
Manchester City beating rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final means Arsenal are now ready to take part in the annual season opener at Wembley, following their second place finish behind City, and that will now change their preparations .
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts revealed that the Emirates Cup, which is usually played over a weekend, could be staged mid-week due to the Community Shield.
“Arsenal are going to be in the Community Shield, we know that’s another game on the pre-season schedule, it’s going to be Arsenal against Manchester City at Wembley I presume,” he said.
“This one is going to be at Wembley on August 6, whether it’s Arsenal’s last pre-season game of the summer I’m not sure yet, and there’s talk they could have the Emirates Cup, I’m not sure that’s not the case. hasn’t been confirmed yet.
“I heard it might be rushed midweek, but I can’t imagine they would do it midweek, I don’t know.
“So you obviously have the game in Germany, which we hope will be confirmed at some point against Nuremberg, I believe, then the trip to the United States with three games there against the All Stars, Barcelona and Man United, and then Manchester City’s game in the Community Shield and potentially an Emirates Cup, but we’ll wait to see that, but certainly a pre-season that’s shaping up now.”
Although pre-season is mainly about fitness and preparing for the new season, the Community Shield being played could be an important game for Arsenal as they once again aim to challenge for the title.
The match at Wembley is set to be played around August 5/6 before the Premier League campaign kicks off.
The Gunners have fallen just short of Man City after leading the league for most of the season, and with eight consecutive defeats against Pep Guardiola’s side they can declare ahead of the campaign that they will build on their progress.
Arsenal have beaten City in three of their last four meetings at Wembley Stadium, which included the 2014 Community Shield, as well as two FA Cup semi-finals, but too often have found themselves on the losing side against the Champions in the past. a few seasons.
