Hamilton to hold Mercedes F1 contract talks with Wolff today

Date:

The future of the seven-time world champion has been an ongoing subplot this season given that he is out of contract at the end of the year and an extension has yet to be signed.

The apparent uncertainty has led to reports linking Hamilton to a sensational change at Ferrari, even though the 38-year-old Briton has repeatedly insisted he has no intention of leaving Mercedes.

After leading a double podium finish for Mercedes in Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton said his focus is on the team heading into 2024 on equal footing with runaway leaders Red Bull .

Asked if his answer meant he would still be driving for Mercedes next year, Hamilton admitted he would speak to Wolff on Monday.

“Well, I haven’t signed anything yet,” Hamilton said with a laugh.

“But, we meet Toto tomorrow, so hopefully we can do something.”

Hamilton then tried to downplay the meeting, adding: “I mean, we’ve had so many meetings. So that’s just another one of the meetings that we have.

And Hamilton has insisted speculation over his F1 future has not distracted him.

“I mean, you can see my results today, my performance is not affected by this,” he said.

“It’s still something that’s in the back of your mind (however), so once it’s done, you can focus more and think about the future.

“But like I said, I’m working as hard as I can with this team and I see so much strength within the team, I think they’re still so hungry, and today’s podium was really, really special, I’ve seen them in the distance, in the back (of the crowd) – they’re always in the back! – but to be able to see the excitement in everyone I’ve worked with for so long (It is special).

“And when we come back right now, it will be a great energy within the office. These guys, they’ll take two seconds to have fun and be happy, and then they’ll go back to the books and try to figure out how we can win the next race. That’s what I like about them.
